Ash Parrish, known on various platforms for her work in video game journalism, including contributions to Kotaku and The Verge, has often engaged in discussions to stir controversy or strong reactions online.
Her article on The Verge, "The return of Gamergate is smaller and sadder" where she boasts about infiltrating the Discord server at the center of Gamergate 2.0.
In the title one might see the start of the big lie she attempts to spins:
"A group of gamers has mobilized a harassment campaign against a story consultant company, marginalized developers, and journalists in protest of what they see as ‘forced’ diversity in gaming."
The truth was much simpler. A little known gamer with the gamer tag Kabrutus created a curator group highlighting games that where aided by a consulting company, Sweet Baby Inc, and the mainstream gaming media tried to destroy him for it. And for their effort, Kabrutus suddenly became one of the most well known gamers of the current times, games are failing, studios are laying off, and people are starting to hide their DEI participation
There's a lot of criticism for her leaving out key details that might portray the situation in a different light, specifically the actions taken by Sweet Baby Inc. employees that attempted to shut down the Steam Curator group SBI Detected and attempting to get KABRUTUS kicked off of steam. This could be seen as inciting the backlash they received. Some people argue that the article serves only to push a narrative that frames any criticism of progressive changes in gaming as inherently misogynistic or racist, thereby simplifying a complex issue into a binary good-vs-evil scenario.
Ash Parrish has publicly critiqued many aspects of video game culture, including how games represent different cultures. For instance, there's been mention of her criticizing what she perceives as racist elements in games or game development, particularly focusing on how Japanese culture is portrayed in games like "Ghost of Tsushima."
This has led to significant backlash where she is being accused of being a racist herself with anti-Asian racism comments. A post of her also making fun of Asian names and and with no regrets and laughing doubled down. Currently she has her posts protected, another method of these folks when they start getting push-back. I am relatively certain that she will claim harassment or racism as the reason she went private.

Parrish's approach to journalism, particularly the act of joining a Discord to report on its activities, raises questions about journalistic ethics, transparency, and the portrayal of online communities. Critics argue that such methods might aim more at narrative confirmation rather than an unbiased exploration of the truth.
Notably after her visit to that discord server and article, that server got hacked and they deleted a lot of work including development of games being made.

Yeah, the Sweet Baby Inc. detected Discord server has been hacked.

Her style of communication on social platforms like X (formerly Twitter) can be described as forthright or combative, depending on one's perspective. This approach has led to her being involved in several online controversies where she's either called out others behavior or has been called out for her own statements. Some people reflect a view of her as someone who has "meltdowns" or engages in what some users describe as "rants," particularly when addressing issues of race, culture, or representation in video games.
There's a mix of support and criticism for Parrish online. While some applaud her for tackling tough issues like racism and representation in gaming, others accuse her of actually being a racist fueling unnecessary controversy, misunderstanding cultural contexts, or even displaying hypocrisy when it comes to racial sensitivities. For example, posts have highlighted moments where she's made fun of or criticized aspects of Asian games or culture, leading to accusations of her own biases.
