Uncovering the Hidden Ties: Wings Interactive, Landfall Games, and Sweet Baby Inc.'s Shadow Network in Gaming

As the gaming industry continues to evolve, a network of interconnected companies and consulting groups has emerged, raising important questions about transparency, influence, and corporate control. Recent investigations have shed light on the shadowy operations of Wings Interactive, Landfall Games, and Sweet Baby Inc. (SBI), revealing a network that operates behind the scenes to shape game development, narratives, and funding—often with little public scrutiny. This article explores the connections between these entities, their tactics, and the implications for both gamers and developers.

The Rise of Wings Interactive and Its Ties to Landfall Games

Wings Interactive, marketed as a funding and consulting group that supports indie developers—particularly those from marginalized genders—has positioned itself as a champion of diversity in gaming. However, a closer examination reveals that Wings is far from independent. Registered in Sweden as Vingar Interactiva AB, Wings shares the same legal address as Landfall Games, the studio behind popular titles like Totally Accurate Battle Simulator, ClusterTruck, and Content Warning. This shared address, along with overlapping board members and personnel, suggests that Wings functions not as an independent fund, but rather as a shadow publisher controlled by Landfall.

Investigations, including those conducted by the YouTube channel Gothic Therapy, have uncovered that key figures, such as Petter Henriksen, co-founder of Landfall Games, and Christian Schuster, a member of the Wings selection committee, are deeply intertwined with both entities. Landfall’s extensive business empire—comprised of Landfall Games AB, Landfall Publishing AB, and other subsidiaries like Content Warning AB—operates from the same location, indicating a coordinated effort to quietly control indie projects without publicly associating them with Landfall’s brand. This strategy allows Landfall to maintain its public image as a quirky, physics-based game developer while exerting influence over a broader range of titles through Wings.

The Sweet Baby Inc. Connection: A Narrative Powerhouse

Enter Sweet Baby Inc. (SBI), a narrative consulting firm recognized for its expertise in game storytelling, with a strong emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). SBI has faced considerable scrutiny from gamers and creators, including those at Gothic Therapy, who accuse the company of imposing ideological narratives that can alienate players and stifle creativity. Despite this public backlash, SBI has not only survived but thrived, maintaining contracts with major studios and expanding its influence in the industry.

The connection between SBI and Wings became apparent when Kim Belair, SBI’s CEO, was revealed to have served on Wings’ selection board. In a video interview referenced by Gothic Therapy, Belair confirmed her advisory role with Wings, stating, “I’ve also been on the advisory board of a few funding bodies, including the Wings Fund, which specializes in grants for women and marginalized people working in games.” This relationship suggests a strategic alliance in which SBI's narrative expertise complements Wings' funding and publishing goals, potentially steering game development toward specific ideological objectives.

A Shadow Network Exposed

The collaboration between Wings, Landfall, and SBI highlights a larger network operating within the gaming industry. Landfall utilizes Wings as a front to fund and control indie projects, while SBI provides narrative consulting to ensure these projects align with its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI)-driven vision. This partnership raised concerns when Gothic Therapy uncovered that Wings received $1 million from Riot Games in April 2021 for “games by diverse teams,” further enhancing its financial backing and influence.

The fallout was swift. Following Gothic Therapy’s initial exposé, Wings deleted its social media accounts, website content, and employee listings, leading to speculation about guilt or panic. The host of the channel, “Master of the TDS,” stressed that they archived all evidence, stating, “You didn’t accomplish anything there… you make yourselves look even more guilty.” This reaction only intensified suspicions that Wings and its affiliates were concealing something—whether it was financial mismanagement, undisclosed partnerships, or the extent of their influence.

Financial records analyzed by Gothic Therapy revealed additional red flags. Despite claiming to fund games with budgets of up to $500,000, Wings reported a negative operating profit in 2023 and had only one listed employee, Audrey Le Prince. Yet, Wings has received substantial investments from entities like Netflix Games, InnerSloth (Among Us), Devolver Digital, and Casey Yano (Slay the Spire). With millions in funding but no clear profit or transparency, the question remains: where is the money going?

This hidden network raises significant concerns for both gamers and developers. For gamers, there is a fear that ideological agendas—promoted by SBI and enabled by Wings and Landfall—could overshadow creative freedom, leading to homogenized storytelling that prioritizes representation over quality or player engagement. Gothic Therapy’s critique of SBI-influenced games, such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and The Crush House, underscores this tension, with some arguing that forced DEI narratives alienate audiences.

For developers, the influence of this network could stifle independent creativity. Wings’ role as a shadow publisher, combined with SBI’s narrative oversight, may pressure indie studios to conform to specific guidelines in order to secure funding or avoid backlash. The case of Humble Games, which Gothic Therapy linked to The Powell Group (another SBI partner), illustrates this risk: after Humble Games’ alleged “restructuring” in July 2024, The Powell Group took over, potentially reshaping the remaining projects like On Your Tail and Billy Bust Up to align with DEI priorities.

The Push for Transparency

Gothic Therapy’s investigations highlight a growing demand for transparency in the gaming industry. The channel’s hosts assert that gamers have the right to know who develops their games, whether it's Landfall, Wings, SBI, or their affiliates. “It's perfectly acceptable to have preferences regarding game content, and it's also essential to advocate for transparency in the gaming industry,” stated Master of the TDS. He drew an analogy to food allergies, explaining that just as consumers check ingredient lists, gamers should be aware of the "ingredients" in their games.

However, this push for transparency has faced resistance. SBI and its partners, including Wings and The Powell Group, have responded by removing public records, deleting their online presence, and filing privacy complaints against critics. In one instance, Gothic Therapy received a privacy complaint for using publicly available images from Games for Diversity (which is linked to The Powell Group). In response, they stated defiantly, “You can’t claim something is private when it’s actually public… if you try anything, we are going to fight back.”

A Call to Action

The connections between Wings Interactive, Landfall Games, and Sweet Baby Inc. reveal a troubling trend in the gaming industry—a network that prioritizes control, funding, and ideological alignment over openness and creativity. While diversity and inclusion are valuable goals, the secretive tactics employed by these entities raise questions about their true motives and their impact on gaming culture.

For gamers, the message is clear: demand transparency, question corporate narratives, and support creators who prioritize artistic integrity. For developers, the challenge is to navigate this landscape without compromising their vision. As Gothic Therapy continues to investigate further, there is hope that the industry will confront the issues it desperately needs to address—before the darkness becomes too overwhelming to overcome.
