Dustborn
Game or Antifa training simulator?
"Dustborn," developed by the Norwegian studio Red Thread Games and published by Quantic Dream, has been a subject of discussion regarding its funding and the political and cultural context of its release.
It was granted €150,000 from the EU's Creative Europe project. The game also received 300,000 NOK from Viken Filmsenter, suggesting support from Norwegian cultural or film institutions. Additionally, there's mention of other Norwegian government funding.
Interestingly, there was also a mention of U.S. funding, with a notice from the U.S. Department of State looking to fund a counter-disinformation game, although direct linkage to "Dustborn" specifically has not been shown at this time.
The reception:
The gamers reception of Dustborn has been almost nonexistent. The steam charts show a peak user count of 76. Gamalytic shows 4.1k in owners with a total of 3.2k sold.
Harrassment? :
There's mention of the game receiving a "tidal wave of hate and abuse," to which the developers responded by condemning such behavior. However this is often a tactic used to play victim. The majority of gamers and YouTubers will call out this behavior, but they need to know who to call out. With out evidence we can no longer accept your word on this stuff. It has been used for years as a defense to criticism.
While No one should be threatening anyone over differences of opinions. There is plenty of evidence showing journalists, developers and their followers threatening people, trying to defund them and targeted harassment campaigns'.
The Game:
I am in no position to talk about this game as I have nothing to add to what the brilliant Madam Savvy has already said. She Live Streamed this in 3 parts:
