Ghost of Yōtei is it woke, not woke, does it matter?

The announcement of "Ghost of Yōtei," the sequel to the acclaimed game "Ghost of Tsushima," has sparked a mix of anticipation and controversy within the gaming community.
The decision to introduce Atsu, a female samurai, as the protagonist has been met with some criticisms. There's a segment of gamers who argue this choice reflects a "forced girl boss narrative" or an attempt at being "woke." I think it is far too early to judge but it is the pattern we have seen in gaming for the last several years so I understand why they take that stance.
This backlash wasn't that significant, it was more concern for most players of the original game. That did not stop stupid comments from people like Shawn Layden, a former PlayStation executive, who defended the creative choice.
I pointed out that this is exactly why studios are being shuttered. Ignore gamer discussions at your own risk is all I'll say.
The real online discourse, or the majority of it, is a bunch of finger pointing. Not just by the fans of the first game but also the DEI supporters and the anti woke people and also within the various groups.
A lot of the discussion is around the actress herself and some... I'll say Odd pre-emptive moves she did being egged on by groups that defend DEI and those who appose it. I watched them feed her names of people to block all day long. All that did is stir up a whole lot of negative conversations about her and the game. Contrary to the popular quote, "all press is good press." It really isn't. Especially when your goal is to sell a product.
My stance is that personal feelings towards someone shouldn't influence the recognition of their professional competence. Everyone has the right to their private beliefs, and these should remain irrelevant in game context, provided they don't impact the game itself. However, when someone initiates blocking certain people for no reason other than to avoid.. something not sure the reason, it naturally leads to a bewildered and often negative reaction from the audience.
Congratulations, you played yourself. Now, you've turned a group of potential fans against you. This kind of negativity doesn't just stay on X, it spreads through word of mouth across various platforms, embraced by both your supporters and detractors. Such widespread dislike is likely to impact the game's sales negatively.
And if the sales suffer, the consequence could be straightforward: it might be time to look for new employment in a new field. Not many companies want to retain someone who has directly contributed to a major loss in revenue.

For now there is no definitive answer if the new game is going to full of DEI propaganda or if will be a fantastic game as the previous one was.
I have not played the first one and so we'll just have to keep an eye on what happens.
